As I’ve mentioned, I have little opportunity to work with SQL Azure at work, and I’m buried with what I’m doing anyway to dork with it even if they were using it. However, that hasn’t stopped me from enjoying the technology at home. Check out the newest feature – the SQL Azure Data Sync CTP. (Hey I think Sync was spelled Synch…just noticed this. F7 maybe, MSFT?). They’ve taken the sync process from before, and added…lemme paste it, I don’t want to type:

This release supports customers' journey to the cloud by enabling hybrid IT environments between on-premises and the cloud, geo-location, and synchronization with remote offices.  Key updates include a fresh UI, enhanced filtering, and improved sync group configuration for greater ease and flexibility for syncing data across and within cloud and on-premises databases.

  • Greater ease of use with the new Management Portal:
    • The new Management Portal provides a rich graphical interpretation of the databases being synchronized and is used to configure, manage and monitor your sync topology.
  • Greater flexibility with enhanced filtering and sync group configuration:
    • Filtering:  Specify a subset of table columns or specific rows.
    • Sync group configuration:  Specify conflict resolution as well as sync direction per group member.
  • Greater access for all users:
    • The new CTP is available to all SQL Azure users for trial, and does not require a separate registration process.

Check it out at Azure.com, and you’ll need an account. I have two. One is a bootleg account from my old employer, and the other from my MSDN subscription. Looking at it in the Portal, where it’s combined now, it looks pretty rich for sure and graphical.  I’m all about rich and graphical no doubt!

I’m gonna dork with it this weekend, and I’ll post something on it. It’s cool!
