You may get this error when setting up database mail in SQL Server.  I blog about this because I never, ever set up mail, so thought that it might be handy for someone.

Error message when trying to send SQL 2005 mail: No global profile is configured. Specify a profile name in the @profile_name parameter.

Go into SSMS, right-click Database Mail > Configure Database Mail.  Then choose the Choose Manage Profile Security radio button, and then add a user here.  Make sure and set the Default Profile Colum to Yes.  Default Profile Column is apparently synonymous with “global profile”, but whatever…confused the hell out of me for a minute.  OK!
