Gonna get trained!
I received an invite the other day to a SQL Server 2008 Fast Track Data Warehousing Technical Training Workshop over at the MTC – Microsoft Technology Center in Irving, TX. Sounds pretty cool, so I said sure thing…I always enjoy gorging myself with cookies and coffee for a few days. Here’s the skinny and the agenda, copied from my invite:
During this workshop, you will learn the following:
- Design a cost-effective, balanced system for Data Warehouse workloads
- Reduce Hardware costs by using commodity reference hardware configurations
- Reduce costs by leveraging prescriptive guidance and best practices for data layout, loading
- Reduced risk by leveraging Microsoft reference tested data warehouse architectures
Day 1
Module 1: Overview of Fast Track DW Set Up
Module 2: Setting up the Infrastructure
Videos on setting up the infrastructure
Module 3: Validating the Infrastructure
Lab: Validate storage with SQLIO
Module 4: Configuring the installation

I’ve been working with SQL Server 2008® R2 but haven’t looked at all of the features, so I’ll be interested in what they have to say, and as always, I’ll try to post some blogs on the material.
