Doesn't appear to be fixed!

I thought that in SQL Server 2008 sp1, the ORDER BY bug was fixed, but it isn't. We ran into it yesterday.  http://support.microsoft.com/kb/926292.  Scanning the sp1 fix list, apparently this one wasn't added to it: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/968369.  Here's the list, by the way, of the builds after sp1.  I note that there are eighteen (18) of them. Wow. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/956909/.  I should get a dev box and try to add this hotfix to sp1 - I'm going to guess that you can't go that far back in builds from SP1.

Back in a few...

...20 minutes later  (after 171MB worth of hotfix downloads...Wow.)

"There are no SQL Server instances or shared features that can be updated on this computer".  Hmmm.  My guess seems to be correct.

For now.
