Great posting by Jeff Atwood!
Heads up, everyone - every day is International Backup Awareness Day!!!
So a buddy of mine today at lunch goes "Hey man, you backed up your blog lately?" I says, "naaa, my hosting company does all of that, right??. Uh, wrong. I go out to my Control Panel they call it, and guess who has no backups? Right on. Well not completely. You see, I run DotNet BlogEngine software (BlogEngine.NET), an open-source blog that anyone can use. Works great! And, I've got copies all of the files, and have a .Net solution at home and I think I have one on my laptop too. Anyway, if you think you are covered, go check to see if your provider is backing up your virtual directory. And, go read Jeff's blog at:

Then decide if you should be backing up regularly. And, even if your hosting company is backing up your site, get a backup anyway! Might also be a good idea to go ahead and have a copy or two at home. Wouldn't hurt for sure. I've got everything but my posts - maybe I'll ftp those back tonight. (And my posts are oh so valuable as we'll all agree).
