Buck Woody, a program manager at Microsoft, had a blog over on the MSDN about the activity monitor, and a cool little feature that it has.  Check it out here:

My problem was...I didn't know where the hell the activity monitor was and how to open it.  So if you go to SSMS in 2008 and go to the end of the standard toolbar, you'll see a little icon right under help. Kind of looks like an EKG screen:

Click on it and then follow his instructions - you'll see that the info he's talking about comes up in a popup. Very nice.  Thanks, Buck!!!

We use this to connect to 2K8 and 2K5 boxes.  You can also reset the time it polls.
I dont think its quite as good as Activity Monitor in 2005.
