Relax. Just switching hosting companies.

I’ve really enjoyed hosting this site on my own name server for a good while now, like seven years I guess.  (I haven’t had this blog that long of course).  That’s right, I have the IIS 7.0 server that is hosting this virtual directory sitting about 10 feet from me along with my other servers, all on an Active Directory domain at home.  It has certainly been handy, convenient, and fun.  I am currently “grandfathered” right now with SBC Internet and have five static IP addresses on a plan that doesn’t exist with them anymore.

But, because the cost is quite expensive compared to simply going to a hosting company,  I’ve decided to give up the plan, and do what everyone else is doing these days - “bundling” internet, cable tv, and phone – and receive the nice discounts.  When you think about it, moving off of this setup isn’t such a big deal.  After all, with the new company I can FTP, get static IPs, control the folders and directories on the server as I do now, and best of all get much more speed and bandwidth.  Currently my upload rate for this site is only 440 kbps, very slow compared to a third-party host.  I’ll also get my pages served up faster with the new plan when surfing, all good stuff.

So, just wanted to say thanks much for visiting this site.  Traffic has increased tremendously over the past year or so, and I appreciate you stopping by; hopefully you have picked up a thing or two along the way.  I will continue posting SQL Server items of interest in both administration and development whenever I can, along with a bit of humor from time to time.
