OK. Finished up with one class, now ready for another!

A big thanks to all of my students this past quarter in TSQL Querying; I had a great time teaching the class, and hope that you learned a lot. Moving forward, and for something really great, sign up for my next one – ITMC 2437 Programming in SQL Server 2008. You can find out about it here. Essentially we’ll take the same skills that we learned and actually create objects in the database. I hope to cover the following and more:

1. Review/refresher of SQL Server development and TSQL
2. TSQL - Stored procedures, triggers, views, UDFs
3. New features in SQL Server 2005/2008 - MERGE, CTE, new data types, Hierarchy, APPLY, EXCEPT, INTERSECT, etc.
4. CLR and XML
5. Entity Framework, LINQ, nHibernate and where they fit in
6. Other topics (Relational Division, algorithms, etc.)
7. Emerging topics in SQL Server development
8. Full-Text search – really great new additions in SQL Server 2008. Diggin’ FTS!
9. RML utilities and SQL Server upgrades/migrations
10. Maybe a little Bitmasking???

Remember that this is a sophomore-level college course; we will have homework, quizzes, and lab and written finals. Optionally, I think that you can take as continuing education, but check with the technology division to be sure…not certain about that for this class. We don’t use the MOCs anymore as we did for years, but will probably use the Microsoft SQL Server programming book that you can get on Amazon.com.
